Hard Chromium provides a wear-resisting, low-friction surface and can also be used to build up surface thickness where metal has been lost through wear or during manufacture.  Components are usually pre-machined or ground prior to Hard Chrome and then ground or honed to finished size.  Hard Chromium Plating is often used over a heavy deposit of nickel to improve corrosion resistance.  A hardness of 1100 HV can be obtained.
